Hey Joe

Billy Roberts / Jimi Hendrix

The story of who wrote “Hey Joe”, and whether or not it is a traditional song, is probably worthy of a small book on its own (don’t take our word for it – research it for yourself). We don’t know the answer but we do know the rights are administered by Third Story Music and they credit Billy Roberts as the author … so we are sticking with that. We’ve added Jimi Hendrix because it is his slowed down version of the song that we have covered.

Of course we have added our own Riff Diamond spin to our version and we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy playing it. We just love the gentle, laid-back and bluesy nature of this classic track … and we like the contrast between that and the violence inherent in the lyrics. We think Conal does a pretty damn fine job on this number and we could happily let him stretch the solo to 15 or 20 minutes if we thought we could get away with it! Definitely one for lazy days and sunny afternoons.
