John the Revelator

Written by
Traditional Gospel Blues

Cover of John the Revelator

A traditional gospel blues number about the Book of Revelation that has been described as “one of the most powerful songs in all of pre-war acoustic music”. Originally made famous in 1930 by Blind Willie Johnson, the song has been covered, and adapted, by many artists over the years: our favourite versions are the ones by Tom Waits and Gov’t Mule.

This is our take on an influential classic: see what you think of it.
