Another rock icon … another classic … and we could not resist covering it and adding a little twist or two of our own. Although quite possibly the most recognisable rock riff of all time, the song is actually a four-note blues scale melody in G minor harmonised in parallel inverted fifths (you always wanted to know that, right?).

More importantly, it’s a stonkingly good number with an intro that builds and builds to descriptive verses and an instantly memorable chorus. When it gets to the solo, Conal starts out being reasonably faithful to the original (it is expected, naturally) before introducing his own ideas: the more ‘tuned-in’ listener might detect little musical references to other Deep Purple tracks and, at live gigs, he has been known to introduce a syncopated phrase or two.
